Introduction of SSE Indices
Prepared and published by SSE, SSE indices are the authoritative statistical indices widely followed and quoted at home and abroad in measuring the performance of China's securities market. SSE Index Series consists of 17 indices, including 5 constituent indices, 2 composite indices, 7 class and sector indices and 3 other indices.

In order to promote the long-term infrastructure construction and standardization process of the securities market, in June 2002, SSE restructured the original SSE 30 Index and renamed it SSE Component Index, or SSE 180 Index. SSE 180 Index selects 180 of the most representative stocks listed on SSE based on sector representation, size and liquidity to reflect the overall situation and operation of Shanghai securities market. It can be used as performance benchmark as well as underlying instrument for financial derivatives. SSE 50 Index includes 50 of the largest and most liquid and representative SSE-listed stocks and reflects the performance of a number of leading and most influential enterprises in Shanghai securities market. SSE Dividend Index contains 50 SSE-listed stocks with the highest cash dividend yield, stable dividend distribution and fairly large size and good liquidity and reflects the overall situation and movement of high-dividend stocks in Shanghai securities market. SSE 180 Financial Index consists of the stocks included in the SSE 180 Index that are in the banking, insurance, securities and trust sectors and reflects the overall performance of financial stocks in Shanghai securities market. SSE Corporate Governance Index includes all the stocks in SSE's Corporate Governance Sector and is intended to encourage and promote listed companies to further improve their corporate governance so as to enhance the overall quality of listed companies. SSE New Composite Index selects SSE-listed companies that had completed the non-tradable share reform as the constituents to track the market trend of such companies and provide a benchmark for investors.

SSE Index Series provides a comprehensive measure of market trends in Shanghai securities market and reflects the performance and movement of companies across a diverse range of industries. It provides an important benchmark to investors for portfolio analysis. With the securities market set to play an increasingly important role in the national economy, SSE Indices will gradually become a barometer of the Chinese economy.

To ensure the indices are based on scientific methodology, SSE established China's first index expert committee to provide advisory opinions on index construction and selection of constituent stocks.
